Global asset manager Janus Henderson has expanded its private markets platform with the acquisition of a private credit and private equity player.
The fund manager has completed the acquisition of Rantum Capital, based in Frankfurt, Germany, which was first flagged in June.
Founded in 2013, Rantum Capital provides private debt and private equity financing to family-owned and entrepreneur-led small and mid-sized businesses.
Janus Henderson said the transaction would support the development of its pan-European private credit platform, with Rantum expected to play a central role in expanding the business across the region.
The deal also adds private equity capabilities that could contribute to future product development.
Last year, the firm acquired Middle East-focused private credit specialist NBK Capital Partners and US-based alternative investment manager Victory Park Capital as part of a broader strategy to build out its alternatives capabilities.
Ali Dibadj, chief executive, said: “We are delighted to welcome the Rantum team to Janus Henderson. The completion of this acquisition strengthens our private markets capabilities and enhances our ability to meet growing client demand for private credit and private equity solutions in a strategically important market.”
Dirk Notheis, co-founder and managing director of Rantum Capital, said: “Everyone at Rantum is excited to be part of Janus Henderson. We share a strong entrepreneurial culture and commitment to clients, and by combining our local private markets expertise with Janus Henderson’s global reach, we believe we are well positioned to create long-term value for investors across Europe.”
Beyond private markets, the firm also recently entered into a strategic partnership with Insiginia for the fund manager to acquire its three specialist investment management businesses. The deal will affect Antares Fixed Income, Antares Equities and Fairview Equity Partners which manage $33 billion across Australian fixed income and equities.
Antares Fixed Income will join Janus Henderson’s existing Australian fixed interest team, creating one of the largest dedicated fixed income offerings in the local market. Antares Equities will become part of Janus Henderson’s global equity business, continuing to provide Australian large-cap equities serving institutional and retail clients.
Fairview Equity Partners, in which Janus Henderson will acquire Insignia’s 40 per cent stake, will continue to operate independently as a boutique Australian small-cap manager.
