NRL’s Melbourne Storm sells majority stake to Swedish private equity firm EQT, which values the team at about $200 million


Swedish private equity firm EQT has taken a majority stake in NRL club Melbourne Storm, ending a lengthy capital-raising process run by investment bank Jefferies to upgrade the team’s headquarters and training facilities.

Storm chairman and bookmaker Matthew Tripp on Wednesday confirmed a report in The Australian Financial Review’s Street Talk column that EQT would become the club’s newest investor, but did not provide details on the size of the investment or the stake.
