Unique infrastructure discovered inside Bradford Live

Building work is progressing to transform the old Odeon cinema in the city centre into the highly-anticipated entertainment venue – but questions and concerns have been raised locally over its future for around two months now.

During these works, a unique piece of infrastructure was found.

In the late sixties, just over half of the lower balcony front was demolished to make way for toilets.

But half remained and workers have been repairing and restoring it.

On Friday, for the first time in 56 years, it has been cleaned.

A spokesperson for Bradford Live said on Friday: “We’re impressed at how well the colours look.”

The carving depicts cherubs and features other decorative designs.

The spokesperson added: “The white sections above are new replacements for the damaged original fibrous plaster mouldings.”
