Plans for new eight-bed HMO on Hampshire high street

The proposals for 34 High Street aim to create a House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) and include the addition of side dormers, single-storey extensions, and cycle storage.

This change would require planning permission as the conversion exceeds the permitted development for up to six bedrooms.

The detached two-storey home is located near the town centre services.

Objections have been raised regarding the impact on local amenities, parking, and traffic congestion, particularly considering the ongoing development at Daedalus.

Concerns were also expressed about the effect on the predominantly elderly local populace.

These changes come as the Gosport Borough faces a rising demand for affordable single-person housing, with a noted shift towards larger HMOs.

The proposals have been revised following a previous refusal, addressing concerns over building character and waste management.

Previously an application to turn the property into a HMO were rejected by the council which described it as an “alien feature.”
