Police hunt gunmen who fired shots at property in Smethwick street

A Smethwick road was sealed off after two men fired shots at a property in the early hours. Windmill Lane was closed for several hours following the drive-by incident.

The gunmen got out of the vehicle as they took aim on Monday, March 11. No-one was injured but damage was caused to the property.

The men then got back into the vehicle and fled towards Cape Hill. No arrests have been made but CCTV footage is now being reviewed in an attempt to identify those responsible.

The road was closed between the junctions with Cape Hill and Ballot Street for much of the morning. Forensics were spotted within the cordon as officers appeared to be searching a drain near the junction with Trafalgar Road.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “We are investigating after shots were fired at a property on Windmill Lane, Smethwick, in the early hours of this morning. Two men got out of a car and aimed shots at a property, causing damage, before getting back into the vehicle which was then driven towards Cape Hill. No-one was injured.

“Detectives are carrying out an extensive review of CCTV as well carrying out local enquiries to establish the circumstances and to identify those responsible. We are appealing for information and would urge people who may have dashcam footage to please contact us.”
