A search of wasteland resulted in three guns being found and a man being arrested.
Officers carried out a search of an area of wasteland, close to Lisburn Lane, in Clubmoor, on January 15. Pictures from the scene show a number of officers in forensic suits, with gloves and face masks, carrying out a search and inspecting items found.
A witness said a number of police matrix vans were seen surrounding the area and officers stationed themselves at a nearby property. Merseyside Police today confirmed that during the search several bags were recovered containing three firearms together with associated ammunition. The weapons have been forensically recovered to assess if they are viable.

Following the discovery a search of a property in the Clubmoor area was carried out and a 34 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of firearm and drug offences.
He is currently in custody and enquiries remain ongoing. Detective Chief Inspector Paul McVeigh said: “Every day of the year, we are carrying out warrants, stop searches, arrests and land searches to find weapons in circulation and remove them from our streets.
“We know that, viable or not, if they fell into the wrong hands they could be used to cause fear and harm in our communities. We have a dedicated Firearms Investigation Team whose job it is to find guns, take them off the streets and forensically examine them so that those who have handled and used them are brought to justice for their crimes.
“Everyone we recover and every offender put behind bars removes the risk of them causing any more fear, intimidation or harm here in Merseyside.
“We would continue to ask the public to be our eyes and ears and let us know who is using weapons and where they are being stored.”
