Labor’s SMSF borrowing ban impacts commercial property investors


Labor’s last-minute decision to stop self-managed superannuation funds from buying residential property through so-called limited recourse borrowing arrangements will also ban them from buying some types of commercial property.

A definition of commercial property used in the Albanese government’s new legislation passed on Thursday will prohibit funds from buying commercial property that does not fit specific criteria.
