Jason Mageehan, 41, and his wife have put their three-bedroom detached home in Chequers Road, Little Bromley, on the market.
The former chapel was built in 1863 and remained in service until the late 1990s.
The home has been listed by property firm Chamberlain Phillips, Manningtree, for £400,000.
Having moved in more than a decade ago, the couple have carefully modernised the building while trying to honour its history.

It was extended in 2019 with a new kitchen-dining area, utility room, downstairs office’ while showing off the building’s exposed brickwork by using reclaimed original materials.
The living room has double height, vaulted ceilings and a mezzanine landing.
The couple are now looking for a new home within a five-mile radius as their two daughters, aged seven and two, are getting older.
Mr Mageehan said: “We had been looking at the idea of moving for quite some time.

“Our little girls are growing up and it’s no longer the right family home for us anymore.
“Now is the right time for our family, so we put it up with our local agents, and they’ve been lovely helping us get it to market.
“For me personally, I’ve put blood, sweat and tears into it, and it’s been a place that has nourished us. We’ve tried to honour the building and improve it.
“It is such a fantastic home. It’s just outside of town, surrounded by farmland. Not many people can access such a character property.
“It is an affordable property, it’s so close and yet so remote.”
