Trump hosts Mother’s Day luncheon for Angel, Gold Star mothers in White House Rose Garden

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump hosted a Mother’s Day luncheon Friday in the White House Rose Garden for Angel mothers and Gold Star mothers, honoring women who lost children to violence and in military service.

In remarks at the event, Trump praised the attendees as “strong and truly heroic moms who have stood up for their children both in life and in a very profound loss.”

He recognized Angel mothers, women whose children were killed in crimes often by illegal aliens, for their advocacy.

“These incredibly brave and resilient women have turned terrible tragedy into unyielding resolve, becoming advocates so that other mothers do not have to endure the same heartache that they’ve felt,” Trump said. “In their honor, we’ve rapidly turned the worst and most dangerous border in the history of our country into the strongest border in American history.”

Trump also recognized Gold Star mothers, whose children died while serving in the U.S. military.

“These mothers raised up children so selfless and so devoted that they volunteered to wear the uniform of our nation and lay down their lives for all of us,” he said.

During the luncheon, Trump highlighted administration policies aimed at supporting families. He pointed to new Trump Accounts, a tax-advantaged savings program.

“We’re helping families to set aside tax-advantaged savings for their children’s future, and we are giving every American newborn child $1,000, automatically, to invest and grow over the course of their lives,” Trump said.

The president closed his remarks by thanking the mothers in attendance.

“You have the most important job there is in America or any place else, and you’re doing an incredible job,” he said. “I just want to wish you all a very Happy Mother’s Day.”

The event was held two days before Mother’s Day on Sunday. It follows an earlier gathering earlier this week for military mothers.

Trump has frequently highlighted the stories of Angel mothers and Gold Star mothers during campaign events and official appearances while advocating for stricter immigration enforcement and increased support for the military.

The Rose Garden luncheon combined personal tributes to the women with a celebration of the administration’s pro-family agenda, featuring tax and savings proposals aimed at children and working families.
