An 18-wheeler carrying bees overturned at the Finesilver Curve downtown, which is known as a dangerous turn for 18-wheelers.
The crash occurred about 9:30 a.m. Friday, involving both the 18-wheeler and a sedan, according to San Antonio police.
All lanes of the interchange from southbound Interstate 35 to westbound Interstate 10 are closed, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
Details were not immediately available as to how the crash occurred, and it was not immediately known if anyone was injured.
San Antonio firefighters said the tractor-trailer was carrying a load of bees.
Drivers are cautioned to avoid the area, and TxDOT said the interchange could be closed for several hours. San Antonio police said they will update the public when the interchange is open.
The Finesilver Curve is a notoriously difficult turn for 18-wheeler drivers to navigate. Ford Wagner, owner of Texas Auto Carriers, has previously said that using the interchange requires “100 percent of your concentration.”
“You have lanes merging, everything is coming quickly, you’ve been driving 60 and then all the sudden I’m on this curve that says 25 miles per hour,” he said.
Numerous 18-wheelers have since overturned, with each such incident causing a major backup in traffic.
