More arrests imminent in precious metals case: IPID

The Independent Investigative Directorate (IPID) says two more arrests are imminent over the alleged theft of precious stones worth nearly 15 million rand from a killarney home in Johannesburg in 2023.

This follows Friday’s arrest of one suspect wanted in connection with the case.

The accused are among six people originally implicated in the matter, including members of the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department, Gauteng Traffic Police, the Johannesburg Metro Police Department and a businessman accused of posing as a police officer.

IPID spokesperson Lizzy Suping says investigations are continuing.

“The suspects face a charge of corruption. The arrested suspect is detained at the Edenvale holding cells until his first court appearance on Monday, 6 July 2026, before the Johannesburg magistrate court.”
