Classic-winning miler Field Of Gold retired to stud

Trained by John and Thady Gosden, the Juddmonte-owned colt has only been seen once this season, finishing second to Opera Ballo in the bet365 Mile at Sandown in April.

A bacterial lung infection post-Sandown kept him out of intended targets such as the Lockinge Stakes and Queen Anne, and as the grey son of Kingman would not be ready to return this year the decision has been made to prepare him for his stud career.

Gosden senior said: “Field Of Gold combined speed, looks and class in bountiful measure. He possessed incredible acceleration and a superb action which he demonstrated in the St James’s Palace Stakes.

“A very powerful and well-balanced colt with a great temperament.”

As well as his Classic victory at the Curragh, Field Of Gold was only bettered by Ruling Court in the Newmarket Guineas, form he reversed in the St James’s Palace. In total he won five of his 11 starts, earning just under £1million in prize-money.

He will stand alongside his father at Juddmonte.
