Alma husband and wife celebrate their platinum jubilee anniversary

ALMA, Wis. (WEAU) – Janet and Charles Michael celebrated 70 years of marriage on Saturday. However, they first saw each other over 7 decades ago, when they were both at Gilmanton High School.

“I watched her walk across the assembly hall and thought woah, that’s a hot chick,” Charles said.

“Ok, but he never told me that until ten years ago,” Janet responded.

Their first date was a movie night, the first of many.

“We went out to a movie on a Saturday night, I must have been 16 or 17,” Charles said. “It was wintertime, so I don’t remember if we stopped to eat anywhere, but then I took her home out in the country.”

Through the seventy years, they moved plenty of times, had three grandchildren, and are able to enjoy time with their descendants three generations their junior.

“We had many adventures, did a lot of travelling,” Janet said. “We were campers, and the kids grew up camping with us.”

It was not always perfect, but Janet and Charles worked together to keep each other happy.

“We differ in some ways, but we’ve learned to work things out,” Janet said. “You have to be considerate of the other person, even though it’s not exactly what you want. You work at it together, it’s not always easy.”

To this day, their love inspires many, as friends and family came to celebrate their achievement.

“I’m happy we made it, I’m sad because we don’t know how long we are going to be together, and I’m grateful to god for my wife and my family,” Charles said.
