Italy set the third mixed 4x100m world U20 record of the World Athletics U20 Championships Oregon 26, clocking 41.21* to get gold on the penultimate day of action on Saturday (8).
Edwin Fermin Galvan, Elisa Valensin, Francesco Pagliarini and Kelly Doualla teamed up to improve on the world U20 record of 41.60 set by Great Britain & NI in the second heat on Thursday. That had beaten the world U20 record of 41.64 set by Australia in the first heat, as the event made its debut at the World U20 Championships.
Great Britain also dipped under their previous world record mark in the final, running 41.38 to secure silver, while USA were just one hundredth of a second back, getting bronze in 41.39.
Nigeria were fourth (41.77), Jamaica fifth (41.92), Germany sixth (42.03) and Poland seventh (42.17) as Australia and France were unable to get the baton around.
