According to Reuters on the 13th (local time), the global hedge fund market is growing rapidly amid growing interest from Asian investors.
According to the Hedge Fund Research (HFR), a U.S. hedge fund research firm, global hedge fund management assets in the second quarter of this year increased by 409 billion dollars (about 548 trillion won) from the previous quarter to 5.6 trillion dollars (about 7502 trillion won). This is the largest increase on a quarterly basis.
In particular, major Asian financial companies are clearly moving to expand hedge fund investment. According to Swiss private bank Winion Bancherpribe (UBP), the proportion of customers who entrust their asset management to banks in Asia has more than tripled since the end of 2024. Danantara Investment Management under Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund is pushing for a plan to allocate 5% of all managed assets to hedge funds. Japan’s defined benefit retirement pension and Asian family offices are also showing interest in hedge funds.
