Man remanded after suspected stolen property found on M3

Officers from Hampshire Police‘s Roads Policing Unit in Whitchurch spotted the vehicle while on patrol and checks indicated it was suspected of being connected to a recent burglary.

Police said specially trained officers used authorised tactics to safely bring the vehicle to a stop, with support from colleagues in the Armed Response Unit.

A search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered a large quantity of suspected stolen property.

A man was arrested and taken into custody on suspicion of handling stolen goods and taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.

Hampshire Police has since confirmed the suspect has been remanded to appear in court charged with theft of a motor vehicle, handling stolen goods and criminal damage.

In a statement, the force said: “Using authorised tactics and with support from our colleagues in the Armed Response Unit, the vehicle was safely stopped by specially trained officers without any damage or injuries, and found to contain a large amount of suspected stolen items.

“If you are thinking of using Hampshire’s roads to support crime, one of our custody centres will be the destination.”

The investigation remains ongoing.
