Albion Resources (ASX:ALB) has secured regulatory approval for its maiden drilling campaign at the 100%-owned Gidgee Gold Project in Western Australia, with work expected to begin in late August 2026.
The Western Australian Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration has approved the company’s Programme of Work, allowing Albion to advance preparations for reverse circulation and aircore drilling across several priority gold targets.
The initial campaign will focus on the advanced German Well South prospect and a broader group of regional anomalies identified through recent ultrafine soil geochemistry.
Drilling remains subject to final contractor availability and mobilisation, with Albion now finalising geological support, field operations and other logistics. A detailed presentation outlining the drilling strategy and wider target pipeline is expected next week.
Maiden campaign targets German Well South
German Well South will form a key part of the first drilling program, supported by historical gold intersections that remain open along strike and at depth.
The broader campaign will also test multiple new anomalies generated through Albion’s recent exploration work, which has included soil geochemistry, reinterpretation of historical drilling, geological reviews, field reconnaissance and surveys.
Chief executive officer Peter Goh said the approval allowed Albion to move into the execution phase of its maiden campaign.
“Receiving PoW approval is an important milestone and allows us to move into the execution phase of our maiden drilling campaign at Gidgee,” he said.
“Our recent soil geochemistry program has generated numerous high-quality targets, while German Well South provides an advanced drill-ready opportunity supported by significant gold intersections.”
Albion plans to report assay results as they become available.
Gidgee positioned within established gold district
The Gidgee Gold Project lies within the Gum Creek Greenstone Belt, between Meekatharra and Wiluna, and covers about 19 kilometres of prospective shear corridors.
Recent ultrafine soil sampling has identified 8 additional target areas along these structures, expanding the company’s exploration pipeline beyond German Well South.
Much of Albion’s tenure has historically been tested only by shallow rotary air blast drilling, leaving several prospective structures relatively underexplored using modern techniques.
The project is also close to established mining infrastructure, with a historical haul road connecting the former Gidgee Mill and surrounding deposits crossing Albion’s ground.
The wider Gum Creek district contains about 2.3 million ounces of defined gold resources at Horizon Gold Ltd (ASX:HRN, OTC:HZGLF)’s Gum Creek Project and has recorded historical production of more than 1 million ounces.
