Other notable Art Moms include Helen Mirren, who has turned her silver hair ocean blue, pink and just about every shade in between for the red carpet. And Cyndi Lauper, who has spent decades cycling through pink, blue, purple and practically every color in the Crayola box. Heck, even Jane Fonda has worn icy silver.
But the look isn’t reserved simply for celebrities. I firmly believe it’s great for the non-famous among us. After all, if you’ve spent decades figuring out what you like, why would you start dressing and grooming yourself according to a shrinking list of things deemed appropriate? By 60, 70 or 85, you’ve earned the right to know that a purple streak is just a purple streak. You don’t need to construct an entirely new identity around it. You can dye your hair pink on Tuesday and go prune the hydrangeas on Wednesday. That’s the art mom life I want for all of us.
Now, I’m not suggesting everyone run out and dye their hair bubblegum pink. I mean, bold is relative, so do you. But, maybe it’s a burgundy gloss or finally getting the platinum pixie you’ve been saving on Pinterest for ten years. So yes, Martha Stewart has rose-gold hair at 85. And rather than asking whether the color makes her look younger, I’d like to retire that question altogether. It makes her look interesting.
Afterall, don’t we plan to age in color?
