A SOMERSET town has been crowned Champion of Champions for its blooming marvellous floral efforts this summer.
Castle Cary landed the Serco Cup for the best community initiative in the South West at the recent RHS Britain in Bloom Awards.
Throughout the summer, Cary staged a ‘Paint Your Town Yellow’ event, with sunflowers, hanging baskets, shop windows, gardens, planters and the “sunny community” all taking part.
Meanwhile, Eat Cary received a gold accolade and a level 5, outstanding (highest mark) for their community garden, and Castle Cary Primary School got the same, and outstanding for all their work in art, gardening and the community.
Castle Cary Railway station won gold in the business awards, including the community garden at The Creamery and a mention was made of the amazing hydrangeas on the platform.
The Woodland Garden was recognised as an improving project.
“What a community effort and a special thanks must go to our ‘Bloomers’ in the Cary in Bloom Working group and to The Newt in Somerset for their amazing support,” a spokesperson said.
