CPM Group Sees Gold, Silver, Platinum and Palladium Pullback as a Correction in a Longer Bull Market – News and Statistics

CPM Group, in a presentation by Jeffrey Christian, examined the outlook for gold, silver, platinum and palladium alongside Federal Reserve interest rates, government debt and recession risks, according to the commodities research and advisory firm. At the time of recording, gold was trading around $4,350 and silver near $66.60, and CPM characterized the recent softness in prices as a correction inside a longer-term bull market for precious metals.

Christian opened the discussion by comparing short-term and longer-term gold charts. Prices have come down from their January highs, yet CPM maintains that the broader upward trends are still intact.

On silver, the presentation addressed resistance in the vicinity of $75. CPM expects considerable investor buying if silver prices were to drop to roughly $55 or below, and that buying interest could establish a support level for the metal.

The presentation then shifted to platinum and palladium. Christian reviewed the price cycles of both metals, the role of investment demand, and how physical market tightness relates to the inventories that are available.

Christian also placed the Fed’s most recent rate increase in historical context and assessed the risks tied to government debt. He discussed ongoing foreign demand for U.S. Treasury securities and explained why serious fiscal problems, on their own, do not indicate an imminent financial collapse.
