Paredes, another Platinum title for Guinart and Virseda. Tello and Arce also triumph

From Tirana to Paredes, from Albania to Portugal. Three weeks later, Marina Guinart and Veronica Virseda have claimed another FIP Platinum title. Thanks to their three-set victory (6-3 6-7 6-4) over Carolina Orsi and Patty Llaguno, the two Spanish players earned another 300 points in the FIP Ranking, showing great resilience after losing the second set in a tie-break. “It was a very difficult match”, admitted Virseda. “We had the opportunity to win in the second set as well, but Marina and I share the same goal, which is to win”. “I’m very tired but very happy”, added Guinart. “We pushed and supported each other, continuing to fight for every ball. Thanks to my family and the whole team; now we keep fighting, starting already at the Valladolid P2”.

MEN The men’s tournament, and the all-Argentine final, was won by Juan Tello and Maxi Arce, who defeated Sanyo Gutierrez and Maxi Sanchez Blasco 6-4 6-2. For Arce, a semi-finalist in Tirana alongside Alex Arroyo, it is the first title of his career on the FIP circuits, while Tello lifts a trophy again for the first time since November 2022. After losing two finals in as many FIP Platinum tournaments (in Lyon and Mexico at the end of last season), ‘El Gato’ finally secured a significant achievement. “We came here with the intention of winning the tournament, and that was evident in this final”, said Tello. “This is our first title together and proof that hard work pays off”. “I’m incredibly emotional”, said Arce, close to tears. “I dedicate this victory to my grandfather, but I also want to thank my family and El Gato’s family. We really wanted this title, and we achieved it”.

The next FIP Platinum tournament will take place in September in France, in Lyon.
