Platinum Jumps to Multi-Month Highs as South Africa’s Power Crisis Bites

Platinum jumped 3.4% on September 3, 2026, as a deepening cost crisis at South Africa’s Eskom chokes the country’s mines, which alongside Russia and Zimbabwe supply 90% of the world’s platinum group metals. The metal already broke its 18-year-old price record in January, and WPIC now forecasts a fourth straight annual deficit.
