Shanklin rower Bass Andre has rounded off an outstanding international racing season by claiming 2 silver medals at the World Offshore Rowing Championships in China.
Fresh from success at Henley Royal Regatta in July, where they won the prestigious Danesfield Trophy, Bass travelled to China following a strong performance at the European Championships, where they narrowly missed out on a medal.
Representing Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club, Bass entered 3 events at the World Championships – the solo, mixed quad and mixed double – qualifying comfortably for the finals in all 3 disciplines.
Competing in challenging conditions, Bass demonstrated their ability to master the waves, pushing the eventual winner all the way in the solo final to secure an impressive silver medal.
A short time later, Bass repeated that success in the mixed quad, claiming a 2nd silver medal of the championships.
Although finishing outside the medals in the mixed double, reaching the final in all 3 events represented another significant achievement on the international stage.
The results bring to a close a remarkable season for Bass, who has demonstrated their versatility across several rowing disciplines, from traditional fine boat racing to beach sprints and offshore competition.
Club captain Garry Walters said:
“Bass continues to strive high and surpass expectations, proving themselves a high-calibre athlete in a range of rowing disciplines, from classic fine boats to beach sprints and offshore.
“They are a remarkable athlete who remains refreshingly modest and humble. We are so honoured that Bass wears the Shanklin kit with such pride.”
Bass is due to return to the Isle of Wight next weekend for further training before travelling to Monaco and Hong Kong for more international racing.
They will then head to Australia to begin a short-term coaching and rowing position.
