To mark the 30th anniversary of the hryvnia, the National Bank of Ukraine put a silver commemorative coin into circulation on September 2, dedicated to the anniversary of Ukraine’s monetary reform. This was reported reported National Bank of Ukraine Press Office.

The currency reform lasted two weeks—from September 2 to September 16, 1996. During this period, coupon-karbovanets were exchanged without restriction for the new currency, the hryvnia. Starting on September 17, 1996, the hryvnia became the sole legal tender throughout Ukraine. This marked an important step in establishing Ukraine’s economic independence.
The commemorative coin has a face value of 1 hryvnia, is made of 925-fine silver, and contains 31.1 g of pure precious metal. The coin is adorned with spot gilding.
The obverse features the design of the 2018 1-hryvnia circulation coin. The reverse features the design of the first 1-hryvnia circulation coin, which was in circulation until 2018 (and is gradually being withdrawn from circulation).
