ECB picks 36 payment service providers for digital euro pilot


FRANKFURT, July 14 (Reuters) – The European Central ‌Bank has ‌selected 36 payment service ​providers from over 50 applicants across the euro zone ‌to join ⁠its digital euro project, it ⁠said on Tuesday.

“The pilot aims to ​support ​the ​ongoing preparatory ‌work for the potential issuance of a digital euro, and is due to ‌start during ​the second ​half ​of 2027 ‌for a period ​of ​12 months,” the ECB said in ​a ‌statement.
