American Industrial Partners eyes $8bn target for next buyout fund

Private equity firm American Industrial Partners (AIP) is considering a fundraising target of around $8bn for its next buyout fund, according to a report by Bloomberg citing unnamed people familiar with the matter.

The New York-based investor has held early discussions with prospective limited partners this year, although the fundraising remains at a preliminary stage and AIP could ultimately decide against launching the vehicle, the people said.

AIP, which manages approximately $17.8bn, focuses on businesses in sectors including aerospace and defence, automotive and industrial services. Its investment strategy targets companies with more than $500m in revenue.

An $8bn target would represent a substantial increase on AIP’s previous flagship fund, American Industrial Partners Capital Fund VIII, which closed at its $5bn hard cap in 2023.
