OrbiMed Raises $3 Billion Across Global And Asia Healthcare Funds

OrbiMed has raised $3 billion in commitments across two new private equity funds focused on healthcare and life sciences investments in the U.S., Europe, and Asia.

OrbiMed Private Investments X raised more than $1.9 billion to invest in U.S. and European life sciences venture capital opportunities, while OrbiMed Asia Partners VI raised more than $1 billion for healthcare growth equity and venture capital investments across Asia.

Both funds will target companies across biopharmaceuticals, medical devices, diagnostics, and technology-enabled healthcare services. OrbiMed plans to back companies from early development through later growth stages as advances in artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and new therapeutic modalities create additional healthcare opportunities.

The firm highlighted the growing role of AI in drug development and healthcare, the emergence of new therapeutic approaches, and China’s expanding biotechnology industry as major trends shaping its investment strategy.

Investors in the new funds include medical institutions, university endowments, foundations, pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, and family offices. OrbiMed said the capital base includes many long-standing investors that have supported the firm’s previous healthcare strategies.

OrbiMed is led by 20 partners and supported by more than 150 professionals with expertise spanning company incubation, strategy, operations, and finance. The firm operates from 12 locations across major global healthcare markets.

The new funds increase OrbiMed’s investment capacity as the firm manages more than $21 billion in assets. Its broader platform invests across private equity, public equity, and royalty and credit strategies, providing capital to healthcare companies ranging from startups to large multinational corporations.
