Bangladesh and Lithuania have identified promising prospects for expanding bilateral trade at a discussion, focusing on Information and Communication Technology (ICT), cyber security, and fintech partnerships.
The discussion took place during a high-level meeting at the Ministry of Commerce in the Secretariat between Bangladesh’s Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir and Lithuania’s non-resident Ambassador to Bangladesh, Diana Mickeviciene.
Commerce Ministry Secretary Md. Ataur Rahman Khan was also present at the session, according to a press statement issued by the commerce ministry.
During the meeting, Mr. Muktadir emphasised that while the current trade volume between the two nations is modest, immense potential exists for growth.
He highlighted Bangladesh’s rapidly expanding ICT sector, skilled youth workforce, and vibrant freelancer community, suggesting that Lithuanian tech companies can leverage these strengths to expand their footprint in South Asia.
Reiterating Bangladesh’s investor-friendly environment, the minister noted that the government has ensured a stable ecosystem for international investors, including seamless profit repatriation and favourable investment policies.
Ambassador Mickeviciene stated that Lithuania is a global leader in world-class laser technology, GovTech, and fintech services. She expressed strong interest in sharing technological expertise and collaboration to support Bangladesh’s ongoing digital transformation and cyber security infrastructure.
