CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte city officals will hold a special meeting Tuesday to consider changes to the city’s Youth Protection Ordinance as officials respond to public safety concerns tied to youth gatherings.
Council members will hear recommendations from the City Attorney’s Office and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Estella Patterson on possible modifications to the ordinance. The committee could take action following the discussion.
The meeting comes as local governments and private property owners have tightened restrictions following “teen takeovers.”
The meeting is set to take place at the Charlotte Mecklenburg Government Center at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Raleigh is also weighing the option for youth curfews, but no ordinances have been created.
