A person has died on a private property on Pohau Road in Taumutu, near Lake Ellesmere, after a vehicle struck a pedestrian this morning.
Canterbury Police Senior Sergeant Craig Ellison said the incident was reported around 8.30am.
Police are at the scene and residents can expect an ongoing police presence in the area.
No other information was immediately available.
