India’s women’s doubles table tennis pair of Syndrela Das and Sutirtha Mukherjee lost to Japan’s Miu Hirano and Miyuu Kihara 0-3 in the WTT Contender Almaty 2026 finals. Syndrela-Sutirtha settled for a silver medal after losing in three straight games. In the latest sports news from Indian table tennis, the pair reached the finals after beating Diya Chitale and Yashaswini in an all-Indian semifinal at the WTT feeder in Kazakhstan.

The Indian pair showed a phenomenal performance in the semis. Syndrela and Sutirtha beat the top-seeded pair of Diya Chitale and Yashaswini Ghorpade 3-1 with the set scores of 11-6, 12-10, 8-11 and 11-6 in the semifinals. The pair secured a spot in the WTT Contender Almaty 2026 finals, where they faced Japan’s Miu Hirano and Miyuu Kihara.

India lost the final in a battle that lasted just over 30 minutes. The Japanese pair was too strong, defeating Das and Mukherjee in three straight games. Hirano and Kihara scored 2-11, 5-11, 18-20 to claim the WTT Contender Almaty women’s doubles title. This was the second meeting between the two pairs, with Japan leading 2-0. Miu-Miyuu won previously against Syndrela-Sutirtha in the qualifiers of the WTT Contender Zagreb 2026, with the same score of 3-0. The Indian pair settled for a silver medal while the opponent won the gold.
