A gold coin priced at $12,000 is being sold in collaboration with UFC as the Freedom 250 fight event at the White House approaches. The sale began days before Donald Trump‘s 80th birthday on the same date. The event has already triggered a lawsuit from ethics campaigners.

A company with ties to Donald Trump‘s two eldest sons began selling the coins on Tuesday to mark the UFC Freedom 250 fight card. Four coins are currently on sale, ranging in price from $250 to $12,000. The collection also includes pieces priced at $1,325 and $1,500. In terms of size, the coins range from 1/10th of an ounce to 5 oz.
Three of the four coins feature the president’s photo. All four carry a “250” logo — a nod to both the UFC event number and America’s 250th birthday. The coins come in specialty protective holders. Some labels show Donald Trump alongside UFC boss Dana White, a campaign surrogate across all three Trump presidential runs, with his signature printed between them.
Trump Coins, the company behind it, describes the medallions as a celebration of America’s 250th birthday and what it calls a “defining patriotic moment.” A press release stated the items unite “American history, presidential legacy and combat sports history in one landmark release.” The website claims the president “designed” the coins himself (via the Washington Times).
Moreover, the sale has been criticised by political watchdogs and the public alike. Many have been calling it a brazen use of the presidency for personal profit. One user wrote on X, “AKA ‘using his presidency & the White House lawn for his own personal enrichment, in a blatant fashion.’”
Meanwhile, the White House rejected the criticism. Spokesperson Davis Ingle called the conflict-of-interest claims “irresponsible” and said they erode public trust.
