The upcoming Air Jordan 3 Retro Flip in Varsity Red is apparently not the only new version of the seldom-seen sneaker that will be released next year during Super Bowl weekend.
In addition to the adult-sized Varsity Red colorway, @zsneakerheadz has reported that a second Air Jordan 3 Retro Flip will be released with expected availability exclusively in grade-school sizing.
The pair will reportedly don a Platinum Tint/Multi-color colorway, which could indicate that the shoe will sport more than a tonal Platinum Tint look. However, while we await in-hand images of the upcoming style, a speculative mock-up gives an idea of what could be released at retail.
The mock-up depicts a light gray Platinum Tint look across the entire sneaker with metallic silver upper eyelets and on the shoe’s heel and tongue branding. Of course, the Air Jordan 3 Flip’s key feature is its elephant print-patterned upper, which, as its Flip name suggests, reverses the exotic texture from its usual toe and heel placement to fill in the rest of the upper.

Jordan Brand’s Flip concept dates back to 2007, when it was used on the original White/Metallic Silver/Black/Varsity Red Air Jordan 3 Retro Flip. In 2011, the brand revisited the concept with a black-based version and a grade-school Cool Gray style, the latter of which could be a hint at what’s to come for the Pure Platinum look. The Flip theme hasn’t been used since, but now it appears that it will be returning for one of the year’s biggest sporting events.
Like the Varsity Red style, the Air Jordan 3 Retro Flip Pure Platinum is expected to be released on Feb. 13, the day before Super Bowl LXI kicks off. Retail pricing has not yet been confirmed, but the style code for the grade school-exclusive sneaker is JA8012-094.
