The Perth Mint adds new 1/10 oz platinum bullion coin to Australian Lunar range

The Perth Mint has added a new 1/10 oz platinum bullion coin design to its well-established Australian Lunar Series, sitting alongside the one ounce platinum bullion coin that has been part of the series since 2020.

Both the one-ounce and 1/10-oz coins are struck in 99.95% pure platinum and are authorised as legal tender with face values of A$100 and $15, respectively.

The total mintage for the 2026 Australian Lunar 1/10 oz platinum bullion coin is 15 000.

The Perth Mint says the launch of the new coin is the result of a collaboration between itself and SD Bullion – a leading US e-retailer of gold, silver, platinum and palladium for investors and collectors. SD Bullion is the sole distributor of the 1/10 oz platinum billion Australian Lunar coin globally, excluding in Australia and New Zealand where The Perth Mint is the sole distributor.

“The decision to launch a fractional platinum product as part of the Australian Lunar series is an evolution of the relationship we have with The Perth Mint which started close on a decade ago. It builds on the popularity of the Australian Lunar series with our investors and complements our existing product offering. I have no doubt that there will be strong investor demand for this 1/10 oz platinum bullion coin in conjunction with considerable interest from collectors, given its semi-numismatic finish,” says SD Bullion COO Cole Keller.

The Perth Mint’s Australian Lunar Series has, since 1996, grown to be an acclaimed collection of precious metal coins celebrating the 12-year cycle of the Chinese Zodiac. Each coin’s design highlights the animal associated with that specific lunar year.

Now in the seventh year of the third series, all Series III 2026 Australian Lunar coins, including the latest 1/10 oz platinum billion addition, feature the Year of the Horse.

The reverse design portrays a magnificent horse with elevated hooves displaying strength and poise. The background includes an image of mountainous landscapes and grassland. The coin’s obverse bears an effigy of King Charles III.

Commenting about the new platinum coin launch, The Perth Mint minted products GM Neil Vance says investor awareness of platinum has grown significantly over the last year and, reflecting this, the organisation is delighted to have issued another platinum product in its prestigious Australian Lunar series.

Meanwhile, World Platinum Investment Council reports that total platinum bar and coin investment is forecast to increase by 27% year-on-year to 718 000 oz, which would mark a six-year high.
