Silver‘s recent performance has been marked by a surprising resilience despite a significant price decline earlier in the year, according to an analysis published on Mining.com on September 4, 2026. The metal, which had been cut in half from its peak, has weathered a post-parabola correction relatively well and remains elevated compared to its historical norms and its primary driver, gold.

The analysis notes that silver reached an all-time high near $116 per ounce in late January 2026, following a spectacular bull run that saw gains of 455.2% over 27.8 months. This performance outpaced gold’s parallel bull market by a factor of 2.3. However, silver’s rally was not uniform, with a late-stage parabolic surge that saw prices catapult 149.0% in just 3.1 months leading up to the peak.

Drawing parallels to the January 1980 silver spike, which saw a 196.1% gain in two months followed by a 76.9% crash, the analysis warned of an imminent selloff. Indeed, silver experienced a sharp 27.5% single-day decline right after its peak, marking its second-worst daily crash since 1971. By mid-July, silver had fallen 52.3% over 5.6 months, bottoming above $55. The silver/gold ratio, a key measure of silver’s relative performance, has averaged 65.4x since May 2026, a level not seen since mid-2014, indicating silver is holding up well against gold.

The analysis criticizes the myopic focus on recent price declines, attributing it to psychological biases such as recency bias and hyperbolic discounting. It points out that silver’s post-parabola correction has carved a bullish falling-wedge pattern, similar to gold’s, which often resolves in strong upside breakouts. The depth of the bottoming in mid-July, where silver fell to 79.7% of its 200-day moving average, marked a 3.9-year low in oversold conditions, resetting the stage for a potential new bull run.
