Peter Griffith
Mattel, Inc. (NASDAQ: MAT) has appointed Peter Griffith chief financial officer and a member of its board of directors, effective October 20, 2026.
Griffith succeeds Paul Ruh, who will remain with the company in an advisory capacity through the end of 2026 to support the leadership transition.
In his new role, Griffith will report directly to Roger Lynch, chairman and chief executive officer of Mattel, and oversee the company’s financial strategy and operations.
Griffith brings extensive experience in corporate finance, strategic transactions, capital allocation and business transformation, including senior leadership roles at Amgen, EY and other financial services organizations.
Most recently, he served as executive vice president and chief financial officer of Amgen, where he helped oversee major acquisitions, strategic investments and financial planning.
During his tenure at Amgen, Griffith supported the company’s investment priorities while maintaining a focus on capital allocation, balance sheet management, operational efficiency and long-term financial performance.
Lynch said Griffith’s financial leadership and experience across multiple industries will support Mattel’s efforts to strengthen execution and improve business performance.
“Peter is a highly accomplished and respected financial leader with a proven track record of enabling growth, driving financial discipline, and allocating capital strategically,” Lynch said.
“His deep experience spanning global financial management, private equity, and investment banking will be invaluable as we look to sharpen our execution and improve our performance.”
Griffith joined Amgen in 2019 after serving as president of Sherwood Canyon Group LLC, a private equity and advisory firm.
Before that, he spent more than two decades as a partner at EY, holding several senior global leadership positions.
His most recent role at EY was global vice chair of corporate development, where he directed the firm’s investment strategy and strategic transactions aimed at expanding its capabilities internationally.
Earlier, Griffith served as global managing partner of operations and finance, overseeing EY’s finance and accounting, corporate development, tax and treasury functions.
During that period, EY’s annual revenue increased by more than 25% to exceed $27 billion, according to Mattel.
Before joining EY, Griffith was managing director and head of the investment banking division at Wedbush Securities Inc.
His background also includes experience in technology investments, cybersecurity and organizational transformation, areas Mattel identified as relevant to its financial leadership needs.
Griffith said he sees opportunities to build on Mattel’s established brand portfolio and global business operations.
“Mattel has an iconic and exceptional portfolio of brands and a strong global platform and financial foundation on which to build,” Griffith said.
“I am excited to partner with Roger, the board, and the talented team at Mattel to execute the company’s priorities, and help deliver sustained, profitable growth and shareholder value.”
The leadership change comes as Mattel focuses on improving financial performance and advancing its corporate priorities.
As CFO, Griffith will play a central role in financial planning, capital allocation and supporting the company’s broader business strategy.
His appointment to the board also gives him a direct role in corporate governance and strategic oversight.
Griffith serves on the advisory board of the University of Southern California’s Schaeffer Center for Health Policy and Economics and is a member of the USC Marshall School of Business Board of Leaders.
He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business.
Mattel also recognized Ruh’s contributions during his tenure as chief financial officer.
Lynch credited Ruh with strengthening the company’s finance and global technology organizations and reinforcing its balance sheet.
“On behalf of the board and management team, I want to thank Paul for his leadership and significant contributions to Mattel,” Lynch said.
“During his tenure, Paul strengthened our Finance and Global Technology organizations, and further reinforced our balance sheet, leaving Mattel well positioned for the future.”
Ruh’s continued involvement through the end of the year is intended to provide continuity as Griffith assumes responsibility for the company’s financial operations.
The appointment brings a financial executive with experience in public company leadership, global professional services and investment banking to Mattel’s management team.
Griffith’s combination of financial management, strategic investment and operational experience will be central to his responsibilities as Mattel pursues its financial and business objectives.
The transition takes effect October 20, with Griffith joining both the executive leadership team and the board as the company works toward its long-term growth and profitability goals.
