BEAC Launches SYSTAC 2 to Modernise CEMAC’s Retail Payments Infrastructure

The platform officially went live on 3 August 2026, introducing an ISO 20022-compliant system for processing retail transactions, including transfers, direct debits, cheques and card payments across the region.

The Bank of Central African States (BEAC)  has launched SYSTAC 2, a new payment infrastructure platform designed to modernise retail payment processing across the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC).

The platform officially went live on 3 August 2026, introducing an ISO 20022-compliant system for processing retail transactions, including transfers, direct debits, cheques and card payments across the region.

SYSTAC 2 is expected to strengthen the efficiency and interoperability of CEMAC’s financial infrastructure while providing enhanced capabilities for financial institutions and regulators. The new system also introduces improved tools for due diligence, anti-money laundering and know-your-customer compliance, alongside enhanced regulatory reporting and oversight.

The platform includes a dedicated dispute-resolution module, while its implementation also raises considerations around data protection, governance and compliance with evolving regulatory frameworks.

The launch comes as CEMAC prepares for the introduction of SYGMA V10, the region’s new real-time gross settlement (RTGS) system. Financial institutions and their legal and compliance teams are expected to assess the implications of both systems for governance, risk management and regulatory compliance.

SYSTAC 2 represents a significant step in BEAC’s efforts to modernise the region’s payment infrastructure and create a more efficient and resilient financial ecosystem across Central Africa.
