VERONA, Va. (WHSV) – The Augusta County Board of Supervisors held a special meeting on Wednesday night to discuss and hear public input on several items relating to the FY27 budget and proposed real estate and personal property tax rates for 2026.
The real estate tax would remain the same at $0.52 per $100 of assessed value but personal property taxes would see an increase from as little as $0.05 per $100 to $0.15 per $100.
Residents like Susan Peters of Churchville expressed their frustration about the rising taxes to the Board of Supervisors at the public hearing.
“Augusta County is a great place to live but don’t chase us out of our home just because they want more taxes, there’s gotta be another way we can look into that,” Peters said.
The reason for these tax increases is to help fund a 3% raise for Augusta County Public School employees and to help fund the Fire-Rescue plan in order to help meet county revenue goals in the fiscal year plan.
The $0.05 personal property tax increase would apply to automobiles, campers, boats, trailers and motorcycles while for businesses it includes large trucks, trailers, machinery and tools that would see a $0.15 increase on that end of the personal property tax.
The Board of Supervisors will consider the proposed changes at their regularly scheduled meeting on April 22 about increasing those taxes to meet their revenue goals.
