Macau’s sporting delegation celebrated a breakthrough at the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, after martial arts competitors Kuong Chi Hin and Song Chi Kuan captured the territory’s first medals of the competition.
Kuong Chi Hin struck gold in the men’s Changquan (Long Fist) event, while teammate Song Chi Kuan secured silver, giving Macau a double podium finish in the competition.
In a statement, Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai hailed the victories as a ‘testament to the athletes’ determination and years of intensive training,’ noting that their performances not only honored the Macau SAR but also embodied the spirit of Chinese martial arts.
“These impressive results reflect the dedication and persistence shown in countless hours of preparation, and they fill the people of Macau with pride,” the delegation said in a statement.
The 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games features 43 sports, with more than 17,000 athletes and officials have registered for the event held between september 19 and october 4.
The Macau delegation comprises 145 members, including 85 athletes and 41 team leaders, coaches, and technical support staff.
They will compete in 15 sports: Aquatics (Swimming and Diving), Athletics, Badminton, Women’s 3×3 Basketball, Boxing, Cycling, Fencing, Golf, Karate, Squash, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Triathlon, Women’s Beach Volleyball, and Wushu.
Macau won a total of six medals (one gold, three silver, and two bronze) at the last edition of the competition in 2023 in Hangzhou.
